On September 1, 2020, Electricite du Laos (EDL) and China Southern Power Grid (CSG) signed the Shareholders’ Agreement of Electricite du Laos Transmission Company Limited (EDLT) in Lao capital Vientiane for jointly establishing EDLT.
The signing of the agreement on Tuesday marks a significantly substantive progress for enhancing win-win cooperation between Laos and China in power sector.
Founding EDLT is an important step in building the China-Laos community with a shared future, and is also the latest achievement of the third Lancang-Mekong Cooperation leaders' meeting held in late August.
According to the Shareholders Agreement, EDLT will operate under the regulation of the Government of Laos. By taking advantage of CSG’s financial strength and mature experiences on power grid construction, operation and management, EDLT will carry forward the construction of the national backbone grids of Laos with safe, reliable, efficient, accessible and sustainable power transmission service, so as to promote the social and economic development and people’s living standard in Laos.
Greater effort will be made in assisting Laos to strengthen power grid interconnection with neighboring countries, turning its rich hydropower resource into economic benefit and building Laos into a battery-center of clean energy in Southeast Asia.
