The 2021 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) opened in Beijing on September 2. State Grid Beijing Electric Power Company implemented all measures of the first-level guarantee standards to ensure power supply for CIFTIS.

Being one of the three major exhibitions for China's opening up, CIFTIS is the largest and most diversified first-class international exhibition for global trade in services. The 2021 CIFTIS was held for the first time in the "one fair two venues" mode, with the "two venues" in China National Convention Center and Beijing Shougang Industrial Park. This has greatly increased the requirements of power supply support services, particularly the Shougang Industrial Park due to its relatively scattered layout and independent operation of the various sites. At the same time, as the exhibition installation period this year was significantly shortened, and closely followed by official events, it leaves less time for accessing to important load. Moreover, multiple factors such as the persistent pressure on preventing the power grid from flooding and external damage, and the sustained COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control measures brought new challenges to power supply.

In order to provide uninterrupted power supply for CIFTIS, State Grid Beijing Electric Power Company established a general headquarters, 2 on-site headquarters, and 22 branches, formulated detailed support plans and emergency plans for power supply, and elaborated work plans for key tasks.

In the preparation stage, State Grid Beijing Electric Power Company carried out careful investigation on important equipment, focusing on improvement of environment for power facilities in "two districts, four rings, eight lines, and multiple surrounding areas" related with CIFTIS. It strengthened communication with relevant government departments and venue operators to keep abreast of the event progress and the demand for electricity load and to provide targeted support services. In response to the new demand for electricity for the exhibition halls in Shougang Industrial Park, the company opened a green channel to facilitate project implementation, and built 10 cable riser rooms and switch rooms. These were put into operation one month in advance to meet the electricity demand of CIFTIS ahead of schedule. It enhanced services for major customers with 10 "1+N" teams to provide extended services and to strictly implement the work requirements for service, notification, reporting, and supervision, as well as to conduct safety inspections on customers' electrical equipment. It also conducted emergency drills to improve the support teams' capabilities in collaboration and emergency response.

State Grid Beijing Electric Power Company entered the most critical period to ensure power supply for the CIFTIS on August 30. All teams implemented measures to ensure power supply according to standards. On the opening day of the CIFTIS, the company operated its three-tier command system nonstop, and stepped up efforts in monitoring power grid operation. All direct-supply substations were manned, and employees for operation & maintenance and security conducted uninterrupted inspections of the direct-supply lines to ensure safe and reliable power supply. The company also stationed 232 emergency repair personnel at various support sites in advance to ensure rapid response to and effective handling of emergencies.

It was reported that the 5G virtual measurement platform technology was also applied to ensure power supply. Independently developed by State Grid Beijing Electric Power Research Institute, this Beidou-based technology can realize synchronous sampling and secure terminal-side data transmission after improvements and upgrades, thereby collecting and monitoring information on important equipment more stable and meeting the demand for high-quality power supply.
